  1. It's been over a year now since the jump/DLL libraries gained
  2. wide-spread use under Linux.  Still, there is a constant stream of
  3. messages in the newsgroups from people who've accidentally removed a
  4. symlink trying to upgrade a shared library.  When this happens with
  5. libc, the system is usually left in an unusable/unbootable state.

  7. To help remedy this situation, I've written a long overdue utility,
  8. which in addition to updating the symlink in one action, also performs
  9. several sanity checks on the new library.  It's been uploaded to
  10. sunsite.unc.edu as /pub/Linux/Incoming/chlib-1.0.tar.z.
